Alternative Backup: Using DVD Storage
By: Indra Zakki
Using computer for a small business or personal only, will help you to make your job easier. Sometimes we take this backup thing easy and maybe we do not make any backup at all. If we do that, we are now in a danger zone. That thinking comes from the felling that your data in your computer not too important, so you will ask your self “Why I must creating back up?” remember that you will feel your data in your computer is important after you loosing it.
There are several way to creating back up, you can use External Hard Drive to save your backup. But if you fell that the External Hard Drive is too expensive, you can choose another way like using DVD to save your backup.
To creating back up, you can use backup utility. You can buy it or download it free (freeware) from the internet. Windows has basic backup utility that already installed when during installation. But not all Windows has this back up utilities (Please correct me if I am wrong), like Windows XP Home Edition does not have basic backup utilities. Maybe Microsoft Corporation thinks that data protection is not important for home computers or maybe small business computers.
Backup your data is very important, you don’t know when your hard disk crash or maybe infected by virus or stole by thief and other things. Maybe you have protecting your computer by many things, but still that protection won’t less long. By making backup data you also can free up some space of your hard disk.
Using DVD as your back up are more cheaper then using External Hard Drive. Right now many computer has equipped with DVD burner (DVD writer), and if you not have a DVD burner, you can add DVD burner to your computer. DVD burner is not too expensive compare to the External Hard Drive.
A DVD can only save several Giga Byte, if you want to backup a small amount of data, DVD is suitable for this.
You can create full hard disk backup by using data backup software on consecutive DVD’s. And also you can create disk image backup, by using disk image backup software into consecutive DVD’s. Also by using data backup software you can create schedule to make back up runs automatic. If your Hard Drive crash, you will need emergency rescue CD to make your computer boot from CD. So creating CD emergency rescue is very important.
Returning data from DVD’s to your hard disk is very easy. First you must sure that your new hard disk is working and then copied directly from DVD to your new hard disk. No need installing operation system and backup software.
